Paw-sibilities for All

For those with chronic pain, balance, or physical impairments that have (or may want) a dog, there are some really creative adaptive equipment options that exist!

Leash options:

(1) bld leash - Fully-customizable dog leash designed specifically for wheelchair users!

(2) Handy Leash - Go completely hands free with the EzyDog Handy Leash. Worn like a glove and adjusts to all hand sizes

(3) Liberty Wrist Band Leash - Enabling Safety, Comfort And Control (includes manual quick release system)

(4) EzyDog Road Runner Dog Leash - (I paired this with a harness vs a traditional collar) Attached around the waist. Built with EzyDog's patented Zero Shock Technology which drastically reduces strain and pull on both dog and owner.

(5) Tuff Mutt Hands Free Bungee Dog Leash - Lightweight, 48 - 60 inch hands free bungee leash. Attached around the waist.

Considerations:

  • Some of these options may be helpful if you have poor hand function. I find that I prefer the leash that goes around my waist as it allows my hands to be free and most of my strength is in my trunk and legs (for a small-ish dog, Chai is strong let me tell u)

  • Some sage advice from Chewy - “Hands-free dog leashes are safe, but they are not appropriate for every dog. Dogs who pull excessively or are not fully trained may need the added control of a traditional leash. Also, if your dog is powerful or weighs nearly as much as you do, he may pull you off your feet if you use a hands-free dog leash. You will need to be careful that your dog doesn't dart around and trip you, as well. Start by using the hands-free leash on short outings and see how your dog does at first. You may need to do some extra training on the leash or choose another option for your pup.”
